K9 Club – Our Environmentally Sound Vision
As we began our journey in bringing K9 Club to fruition, creating an environmentally sound project was near and dear to our hearts. We have never deviated from our initial vision and with each of the thousands of steps along the way that have taken us to where we are now, we have been mindful of minimizing our carbon footprint in every way possible. In choosing to extend our responsibility as pet care providers to also serve as steward of our planet and it’s furry inhabitants, our facility is uniquely focused on environmental responsibility and we have made a substantial investment in many aspects of our building and our processes to minimize our overall environmental impact.
As a reflection of our passion for pet care services and environmental stewardship, we set out to design and build an animal care facility that would provide an unprecedented level of service, housed in a facility that would have a symbiotic relationship with the planet. The result is K9 Club located in Troy, MI, a 10,000 square-foot facility tailored to provide the pet’s entrusted to our care a level of care that promotes health, safety and wellbeing.
Our Green Facility
LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is the most widely used green building rating system in the world. LEED provides a framework that project teams can apply to create healthy, highly efficient, and cost-saving green buildings. K9 Club has adopted a number of criteria from the LEED framework and continues to work towards fulfilling a compliance set that will earn us our LEED certification. The LEED certification system focus is the environmental performance of a building based on the overall characteristics of the project. Credits are not achieved based on the use of particular products, but rather upon meeting the performance standards set forth in the LEED rating system.
In following a path to LEED certification, we’ve fulfilled a number of mandatory prerequisites and are pursing a number of optional credits. Our bank of credits is well-established and we continually add to that bank until we achieve our certification.
K9 Club’s LEED Certification Guru – Lindsay Hansen
Kudo’s to Lindsay for her steadfast efforts in her education to grasp a clear understanding of the complex process in obtaining credits in LEED certification on behalf of K9 Club. Lindsay has been instrumental in selecting a number of building and finishing components that fall under the LEED compliance umbrella. From sink faucets to agility gear for our guests, Lindsay has thoroughly researched products and solutions that fit within the LEED framework.
