In this activity you are going to make an honest assessment of where you think your leadership skills are right now in working with dogs. No one will see this but you. I encourage you to really think about things and be honest on how you’re doing now because the only way we improve what we’re doing is by knowing where we’re at today and what our baseline is.
For each of the items that are listed below, which relate to being a clear leader to the dogs, check off if you think you’re doing it well or still working on it.
The assessment you just completed helps give you a baseline so you know the areas of opportunity that you want to focus on to develop yourself as a great leader to the dogs in your center.
In this lesson you’ve learned how to focus on good leadership. Working with dogs is not about intimidation or fear. It’s all about benevolent leadership and how to establish a positive working relationship where the animals trust you and respond to you because you’re a consistent, fair and, reinforcing leader.
